Brownlee Brothers Invite Local Pupils To Mini Triathlon Event
Primary schools across Derby and Derbyshire are being invited to a free sporting event at Allestree Woodlands School on Wednesday 26th September – organised by the charitable foundation set up by triathlon stars Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.
The Brownlee Foundation aims to provide children across the UK with a positive sporting experience and to encourage regular participation in sport.
More than 1,000 children aged seven to 11 attended the first mini triathlon to be held in Derby last September and similar numbers are expected for the return of the inclusive and fun event this year.
The youngsters will firstly complete a 20m 50m swim in the Woodlands’ pool followed by an 800m cycle leg and a 300m run around the playing fields.
Derby-based triathlon kit designers HUUB have been instrumental in bringing the event to Derby.
HUUB founder and owner Dean Jackson has worked with the Brownlee brothers and a host of other triathletes from across the world to develop the company’s range of specially-designed triathlon wetsuits and kit that are scientifically designed to enhance sporting performance.
He said: “Derby has adopted the Brownlees due to their strong links with us as a city-based company and they have met many business leaders at events we have hosted including a question and answer session for Marketing Derby Bondholders.
They were so impressed with the welcome from Derby and the facilities available at Allestree Woodlands School that we were invited by Alistair and Jonny and their Foundation team to host the largest mini triathlon event outside their home city of Leeds last September.
“It was a huge success with youngsters taking part at their own pace in a non-competitive event which makes it ideal for everyone – regardless of their sporting ability.
“We hope that the brothers will be able to come along again to Allestree Woodlands to cheer on the children but that will obviously depend on their training and competition schedules.
“Triathlon is the world’s fastest growing sport and this is a fantastic opportunity for young people to have a go themselves at the three disciplines and hopefully get as much enjoyment from them as the Brownlees have.
The Brownlee Foundation will supply swim caps, bikes and helmets for all the children who will also receive a t-shirt beforehand as well as a medal and goody bag as they cross the finish line.
Registrations are now open. To register for the event and for more information, follow the link below and complete the registration form: http://www.thebrownleefoundation.org/event/derby/
