Police meeting set to review progress on the care of mentally ill patients
Derbyshire's police scrutiny panel will examine the impact of changes in the care of mentally ill people coming into contact with police at its latest public meeting.
Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa's new Strategic Priorities Board (SPA) will meet on Monday June 25 to review force performance against a range of policing priorities.
Discussions will focus on the Commissioner's priority to support those with mental health issues, including people with learning difficulties, who come into contact with the criminal justice system as a victim or offender.
The Force has worked hard with its mental health partners in recent years and has eradicated the use of police cells for people experiencing mental health crisis in favour of more appropriate, health-based places of safety.
Also on the agenda will be a report providing an update on the Force's financial position and annual complaints statistics from the Professional Standards Department.
The SPA is a new style of police meeting focused on "performance-based" scrutiny. Panel members meet to consider progress against key priorities set out in the Commissioner's Police and Crime Plan.
Meetings are held at a new time of 6.30pm to maximise public attendance and accommodate those who work or have childcare commitments during the day and are more interactive, with presentations led by key partners and force experts.
The next meeting will take place at Force Headquarters (Butterley Hall, Ripley, Derbyshire, DE5 3RS) at 6.30pm on Monday 25 June 2018 and will begin with 30 minutes' of public questions.
Members of the public are welcome to observe the full meeting but may not take part once the question period has closed.
