Tracy Walker explained: “We’re really keen to promote the fact that people in Derby, Erewash and southern Derbyshire can get help to learn more about type 2 diabetes and how to manage it via this free X-PERT course. We’ll be able to talk to people about the course and the benefits of attending. We hope people will come and see us to have a chat and find out more at any of the roadshow venues.”

The X-PERT Health Diabetes Programme is run at multiple locations across Derby, Erewash and southern Derbyshire. Over six weekly sessions, lasting two-and-a-half hours, participants can learn about ways in which they can take control of their diabetes, such as reducing blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol levels, losing weight and reducing diabetes medication.

Tracy added: “These are supportive groups and offer friendly help to people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and want to learn ways to manage their condition. Diabetes Week 2018 seemed a good opportunity to highlight the availability of this support to people locally.”

IN 2017 Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust was presented with two awards in recognition of its X-PERT Health Diabetes Education Programme sessions in Erewash, which were singled out for good “participant empowerment” and participant attendance.

The awards were presented by Dr Trudi Deakin, founder of X-PERT Health who said: "Organisations like Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust are doing a fantastic job helping patients make meaningful lifestyle changes which are having a huge positive influence on their health. I’m delighted they’re helping to provide the evidence we need to keep pushing diabetes education to the top of the agenda and I congratulate them on their success.”
