Residents invited to the Ripley Big Day Out
Ripley Town Council are again hosting a free event at Midland Railway – Butterley on Wednesday 11th July 2018, 10am – 4pm for the younger and older residents from Ripley, Heage, Nether Heage, Ambergate, Bullbridge, Sawmills, Waingroves and Marehay.
This is the second year for Ripley Town Council’s ‘Big Day Out’ event. It was an enormous success last year and a wonderful day was had by all who attended. This year the Council is opening the morning activities to pre-school age children and their parents and carers. The afternoon session will be for everyone to enjoy.
There will be lots of activities for everyone to join in with and you can’t go to the fantastic Midland Railway - Butterley without a free ride on the train. Arrive at Butterley Station and get on one of the trains that will be running frequently between the main Butterley station, right through to Swanwick and back, with a journey planned over the whole track in the afternoon. There will also be information stalls from local groups and organisations
Young children will enjoy playing on the Dream Party Play bus, watching magic displays, Punch and Judy, having rides on the fairground, the trains and Golden Valley Light Railway as well as having their face painted, all free of charge.
The older generations can look forward to being entertained by brass bands, musicians, train rides, Punch and Judy and a church service conducted by Revd. John Wigram in Saviour’s Church at Midland Railway - Butterley
Mayor of Ripley Town Council, Councillor Paul Lobley said, ‘We are thrilled to be able to put on this free event for the residents of the Ripley Township. We are grateful to Midland Railway - Butterley for hosting what promises to be another enjoyable day for all who attend’. He added, ‘We would be delighted if local nurseries, childminders, care homes and social groups could attend, along with families and individuals, for what will be a great day out’.
There will be information stalls and demonstrations from local groups and the railway museums, narrow gauge railway and model railways will be open for guests to look around.
Refreshments will be available at the various cafes both at Butterley and Swanwick.
