Village Hall Heating Gets A Boost Thanks To E.ON
Shirland Village Hall near Alfreton is set to be much warmer this winter thanks to an energy efficiency grant from E.ON.
The hall is the focus of many community events in the area, from dog shows to dances, and hosts two annual festivals. The grant of £1000 will be used to improve the heating system and add thermostats to the radiators. These will make it easier to control the temperature in the hall, hopefully saving money on future heating bills.
Chair of the hall’s management committee, Claire Hanley-Öpik said “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant from E.ON. It’s very important for us to keep the hall comfortable, especially for our older users, and this will make it much simpler and more efficient. As a small charity we rely on donations and funding to be able to take on projects like this. Applying to E.ON for the grant was such a straightforward process but it will make a big difference to everyone who uses the hall this winter.”
The grant was awarded by E.ON’s Energising Communities Fund, set up to support charities and community groups with activities that help bring about a reduction in their own energy use, help generate energy from a renewable source, or provide energy efficiency advice for local people.
The hall has rooms available for anyone to hire from just £8 per hour all year round; residents from Shirland, Higham, Stonebroom, Mickley, Hallfieldgate and Toad Hole Furnace get a further 10% discount. Email shirlandvillagehall@gmail.com or call 07422 962367 for details.
