Pauline Latham was elected as MP for Mid Derbyshire in 2010. She had been a Councillor since 1987. She was honoured to hold the position of Mayor of Derby during 2007/08.
Pauline is married to local architect Derek and they have three grown up children and four grandchildren, Poppy, Harry, Oscar and Albert. She was born in Lincolnshire, brought up in Nottinghamshire and has lived in Derbyshire since 1970.
She has a special interest in education issues, was a school governor for 12 years and was a parliamentary candidate for Broxtowe in 2001 and stood as a European candidate in 1999 and 2005 for the East Midlands.
Pauline has led three Social Action Projects to Uganda involving students from Woodlands School in Allestree and Ecclesbourne School in Duffield. They spent many months fund raising to help schools in a rural part of Uganda to build new classrooms, and took out hand sewing machines for an aids project and some computers to help the rural community to learn how to use them.
Pauline is a very experienced councillor and has been an able, popular and hard working representative for Oakwood.
She is well aware of the issue facing local residents, holds regular advice surgeries in the ward and is very well known especially since she became Mayor of the City of Derby.
In June 2006, Pauline was selected as Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for the prospective new constituency of Mid Derbyshire. The constituency will include Allestree, Belper, Borrowash, Breadsall, Dale Abbey, Duffield, Little Eaton, Morley, Oakwood, Ockbrook, Spondon, Stanley and West Hallam.
