Amber Valley residents asked 10 key questions in control consultation
Residents in a Derbyshire borough are being urged to have their say as 10 key questions are posed in a consultation by Amber Valley Borough Council.
A public spaces protection order (PSPO) relating to dog control was originally put in place on January 4, 2023, for a period of three years. That PSPO is now nearing its end date and a new PSPO dog control consultation has gone live on the Amber Valley Borough Council website.
Amber Valley residents are being urged to share their views about issues including dog fouling and keeping dogs on leads in public spaces.
The proposed PSPO dog control aims to ensure that all public spaces are safe for residents and visitors to the borough. A breach would land offenders with a £100 fine.
A spokesperson for Amber Valley Borough Council said: “The council recognises that most dog owners who live in and visit the borough are responsible; they keep their dog under control, pick up dog fouling and dispose of it correctly, they also microchip their dog and exercise it in a manner that doesn’t cause distress to other users of public spaces.
“However, the council does have to deal with complaints each year about stray dogs, irresponsible ownership, and the impact of dog fouling. In response to this we have introduced new powers in the form of a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for the control of dogs.”
The consultation to extend the timeframe of this power is now live on the Amber Valley Borough Council website.

The consultation will close on Monday, October 13, 2025.
