In addition to the great classic cars taking part in Drive-It Day at Great British Car Journey in Ambergate on 26th April, something else rather special is happening.
Weather permitting, a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, restored from a Spitfire which actually took part in the Battle of Britain will be started and run in controlled conditions.
The supercharged 27-litre V12 engine powered not only the iconic Supermarine Spitfire, but the AVRO Lancaster bomber and even the American P51 Mustang fighter.
Come along and see and hear this magnificent piece of British aviation history.
