Behind closed gates for seven years. now it's your turn to step inside. Very little now remains of Bridge Hill House, once the grand home of the Strutt family - the industrial pioneers who built and owned the iconic Belper mills beside the banks of the River Derwent.
Time has swept almost everything away. except one remarkable survivor. Hidden within a private garden, the Ice House stands as the best-preserved structure from the estate - and for the first time in 7 years, the gates are opening.
This is a rare opportunity to explore a site few have seen and to uncover the ingenious way the Strutts stored ice long before refrigeration existed. How did it work? Why was it built this way? And what does it reveal about wealth, innovation, and daily life during the Industrial Revolution?
Join Adrian Farmer for a fascinating 1-mile guided walk (approximately 90 minutes) packed with stories, insight, and hidden details that bring the past vividly to life.
Please note: the route includes a steep and strenuous climb - but the experience (and the views) are more than worth it. . First public access in seven years . A rare chance to stand where history happened .
Places are limited Don't just hear about history - walk into it.
