Do you know where your ancestors came from? Would you like to know? If your answer is yes, then maybe we can help.
The Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group (Darg) was formed in 1991 by a number of enthusiasts in the fields of family and local history, and we all have a wealth of experience and expertise which we are willing to share.
Meetings are held every Wednesday morning from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm at Birchwood Methodist Church on Birchwood Lane, Somercotes. Our ever growing library is available to anyone and consists of parish registers, memorial inscriptions, census records, indexes of miscellaneous records and much more. We can also help with counties that border Derbyshire.
We are actively involved in recording gravestones in all churchyards and cemeteries within the county, and during the winter months our efforts are transferred to the transcribing of parish and other records held at the County Record Office in Matlock. These are checked and indexed during our weekly meetings.
Darg is a friendly, informal group with any official membership, elected officers for affiliations to any other organisation, and everyone is made welcome.
