The Derby Retro and Classic Car Show returns

Published on Wednesday 7 June 2023

One of Derby’s favourite summer events, the Retro and Classic Car Show, returns to Markeaton Park on Sun 2 Jul 2023. This year's event promises to be a spectacular showcase of the best and most beautiful cars, vans, motorcycles, trikes, scooters, and bicycles, in either modified or original mint condition.

Organised by Derby LIVE, Derby City Council’s arts and events team, the family-friendly event is free to attend.  The judging will be done by our partner, Lee Perry Custom & Classics, throughout the day, with awards presented in the afternoon. Judges will be looking for vehicles that stand out from the crowd, whether it's owing to modifications, creativity, or a passionate owner's background story. Categories up for grabs include Best in Show, Best pre-60s, Best 60s, Best 70s, Best 80s, Best 90s, Best Interior, Best Paintwork, Best Motorcycle, Best Trike, Best Scooter, and Rust & Grime award for the tatty, rusty unloved classic.

Alongside the impressive vehicle display, enjoy family entertainment featuring a lively funfair and thrilling inflatables making it a day for all ages. While you’re at Markeaton Park, don’t forget to visit the Mundy Play Centre with pay and play activities. These include all the favourites such as Pitch and Putt, Footgolf, Mini Golf, Canoes on the Boating Lake, Paddling Pool and the Bouncy Castle, as well as the fun-filled play area including The Adventure Galley pirate ship. Visit The Orangery open throughout the day serving breakfast items, light bites, hot snacks, a range of delicious cakes, ice creams and slush. Markeaton Craft Village hosts workshops and businesses selling handmade goods and gifts, perfect to take home for family and friends.

Live bands and DJs will spin modern and classic sounds from a variety of genres, and acts include signed singer/songwriter Hannah Fay, with vocals to get you dancing. The Local Vocal Community Choir returns for a second year, while vintage singer Miss Franny De Light brings you all the classics, from the 1920s to 1950s through to modern hits. Authentic 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll band Ricky & the Retros will get your foot tapping to all the classic songs of the era.

The event will have a fully licensed bar offering ice-cold beers, wines, and spirits. Stalls are available for charities and motor-related businesses and interested parties can apply using the online application form. On-site parking is available, and an exhibitor fee of £5 is payable upon arrival.

The Retro and Classic Car Show has something for everyone, from motoring enthusiasts to families looking for a fun day out. This event is a celebration of the timeless appeal of classic vehicles and the joy they bring to people's lives.

Mark your calendars for Sun 2 Jul 2023, from 9am to 4pm at Markeaton Park. Don't miss out on this spectacular event!
