Parents urged to get free car seats check
Parents are urged to park up at supermarkets across the county to get their child car seats checked by experts.
Derbyshire County Council road safety officers and a car seat fitting expert will be on hand to offer safety advice and information at a variety of locations in July and August.
Motorists will be offered free checks to make sure their child’s car seats are fitted correctly and appropriate for the child’s age and height and the make and model of the car. Seats can be checked without the child present.
Checks will be on:
- 28 July, Sainsbury’s Swadlincote, from 10am to 12.30pm and later from 1.30pm to 4pm
- 2 August, Tesco, Chesterfield from 10am to 2pm
- 3 August, Asda, Langley Mill, from 10am to 2pm
- 8 August, Co-op, New Mills, from 10am to 12.30pm and later from 1.30pm to 4pm
- 9 August, Sainsbury’s, Ripley, from 10am to 2pm
- 15 August, Sainsbury’s, Chesterfield, from 10am to 2pm
- 16 August, Tesco, Ilkeston, from 10am to 2pm
- 23 August, Sainsbury’s, Matlock, from 10am to 2pm
- 25 August, Asda, Long Eaton, from 10am to 2pm

DCC Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport Councillor Kewal Singh Athwal said:
“It’s vital that drivers understand the law about car seat safety not just for younger children but for youngsters up to the age of 12.
“These free checks take only a few minutes but those few minutes could save your child’s life.”
