Classic Bikes at Heage Windmill
A wonderful warm and fine day on May 8th helped ensure the success of this Event Day, as did the forward planning and presence of the team of volunteers.
The 225 year old mill welcomed hundreds of exhibitors and visitors, possibly the largest turn out ever at the mill, certainly in my memory. The neighbouring field coped well with the free parking, leaving the area around the mill available for the amazing display of motor bikes, old and new, but all kept in beautiful condition. There was a guest appearance by 'Dell Boy's' yellow three wheeler, and The Blood Bikes had a display, which attracted the visitors.
A Yamaha 100cc Twin won the coveted 'Best In Show' David Cleaver Trophy and a Certificate from the Heage Windmill Society. The proud owner was Gary Attenborough from Chaddesden.
The whole site was abuzz with friendly talk and laughter. Apart from the bikes themselves the Burger Van and the Tool Bric a Brac were centres of attraction. The Mill and the Shop, where tours throughout the day were organised, were very busy, as was Miller Tim, who managed, in spite of difficult wind conditions, to get the sails turning intermittently to everybody's delight.
