Meet your Safer Neighbourhood policing team at the Urban Family Fun Day In Heanor
There’s a chance to meet your local Safer Neighbourhood policing team and other organisations as they take part in the Urban Family Fun Day in Heanor this weekend.
The Heanor and Loscoe Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working in partnership agencies for the event, businesses and community groups for the event, which will include stalls, entertainment and activities.
Children can enjoy a bouncy castle, face painting and balloons, while there is also going to be a BBQ, penalty shootouts and stalls from different organisations offering advice and information.
The event will take place between 12 noon and 5pm on Sunday, 11 August at the Wilmot Centre and Heanor Town FC, and any money raised will be donated to Salcare, Stepping Stones and the Blend Youth Project.
It’s been set up to coincide with the Safer Together campaign which was launched earlier in the year.
Safer Together has been launched to help demonstrate how the extra £24 each household is paying into policing, through their council tax, will see the recruitment of 120 additional officers and staff, increase police visibility, improve road safety, provide greater support to vulnerable people, including those in mental health crisis, and enhance investigative policing.
The investment came after consultation with the public revealed they were willing to pay extra in council tax to fund an increase in police resources in neighbourhoods and the Safer Together campaign aims to reach out and engage with residents and show how we are working as a partnership with other agencies, and investing into making Derbyshire safer.
Residents are also being encouraged to sign up to Derbyshire Alert to receive targeted information about crime, scams and crime prevention initiatives in their area.
PC Dave Norcross, of the Heanor and Loscoe Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “There is a lot going on as part of the Urban Heanor Fun Day, with more than 45 stalls, featuring a wide range of local businesses, organisations and partner agencies.
“Please come along and have some fun at this community focussed event, which supports some fantastic local charities and also gives people a chance to get to know us.
“As it stands, the weather is looking OK, but please keep an eye on the Heanor and Langley Mill Police SNT should there be any changes.”
Recruitment to an extra 120 new roles is under way with posts all due to be in place by the end of the summer. The roles include police officers, PCSOs, investigators along with other roles designed to enhance local policing teams and improve problem solving and investigations capacity.
If you would like to sign up to Derbyshire Alert to receive free community safety alerts, crime information and messages from your local Safer Neighbourhood policing teams, visit: www.derbyshirealert.co.uk.
As mentioned, there is more information about the event and your local Safer Neighbourhood policing team on their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/HeanorLangleyMillSNT or on Twitter, @HeanorLMillSNT.
