Neighbourhood Crime and Anti-social Behaviour under the spotlight in Commissioner's latest meeting

Published on Wednesday 4 January 2023

Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster is inviting the public to pose questions to the force and her own Office ahead of her next scrutiny meeting on Neighbourhood Crime and Anti-social Behaviour.

Commissioner Foster holds frequent Performance Scrutiny Meetings (PSM) to hold the Chief Constable Rachel Swann to account for the delivery of her Police and Crime Plan objectives.

Neighbourhood Crime and Anti-social Behaviour are key priorities in the Commissioner's Police and Crime Plan, reflecting concerns she has received from members of the public who highlighted anti-social behaviour and burglary as key issues.

As part of her commitment to step up prevention work, the Commissioner launched her own Anti-social Behaviour Prevention Grant shortly after her election - injecting £200k into voluntary and community organisations across the county to help divert young people away from the risks of crime and anti-social behaviour.

She has also kept to her promise to recruit more police officers to boost visible policing in Derbyshire's communities and has pushed the force to provide a better response to victims of burglary across the county. This included the force's commitment to attend every residential burglary which was introduced well ahead of the national pledge launched late last year.

Commissioner Foster will review the force's progress on tackling Neighbourhood Crime and Anti-social Behaviour at a virtual meeting on Tuesday 21 March 2023 and members of the public are invited to submit questions which will be discussed at the meeting.

Questions should be submitted in writing from Tuesday 3 January 2023 and cannot be in relation to current investigations. The closing date for submissions is Tuesday 17 January 2023.

Commissioner Angelique Foster said: "The force has made significant progress in tackling burglary and anti-social behaviour since I was elected.  Burglary rates have reduced by 17% since my election and I am determined that these numbers will keep going down.

"Over the last year, I have supported investment in new technology and resources to equip our response officers with the tools they need to keep local people safe and do their jobs effectively.

"As a Commissioner, I have introduced increased scrutiny of the force's performance. Neighbourhood Crime and Anti-social Behaviour are intrusive crimes that can have a detrimental impact on mental health on victims and quality of life in communities.  I have made it clear to the Chief Constable that the public expect standards to continue to improve."

The meeting will be recorded and published via the Commissioner's website and social media channels as soon as possible after its conclusion on Tuesday 21 March 2023.

The deadline for submission of all questions is the close of Tuesday 17 January 2023.  To submit your questions, please visit:  https://www.derbyshire-pcc.gov.uk/public-information/public-information-secondary/performance-scrutiny-meeting/
