Broomfield Hall Open Gardens and Rare Plant Fair

Published on Wednesday 20 July 2022

Derby College Group’s Broomfield Hall will open its historic 25 acres of grounds and gardens to visitors on Sunday July 31 for a rare plant and craft fair between 11am and 3pm.

Specialist stalls include cacti, succulents, carnivorous plants and arts and crafts with bonsai demonstrations.

The college's plant centre will be open as normal offering a wide range of seasonal plants and shrubs for sale.

Meanwhile the volunteer-run pop-up cafe will be serving homemade cakes, teas, coffees, and soft drinks.

The gardens at Broomfield Hall were designed by Victorian landscape gardener William Barron making them historically significant. Much of the gardens retains its original Victorian layout with winding woodland paths for you to explore.

In recent years, the appointment of a new head gardener Samantha Harvey and a large team of volunteers has led to the gardens being developed further including contemporary herbaceous planting, a subtropical area and modern rose garden.

There will also be the opportunity to see the restoration work carried out so far of the Japanese Garden, supported by the national Japanese Garden Society.
