Have a further say on plans for shaping Amber Valley

Published on Tuesday 19 July 2022

RESIDENTS, businesses and community groups are being encouraged to have their say on ambitious long-term plans that will help shape a borough over the next 15 to 20 years.

Amber Valley Borough Council is now providing a further chance  for people to have input on its proposals for new homes, business growth and local services.

This further opportunity is part of the preparation of the new Local Plan for Amber Valley, which will set a framework for future development in the borough up to 2039.

The new Local Plan will be used by the borough council to guide decisions on planning applications and to support work with developers.

This further consultation focuses on the Borough Council’s preferred option for new housing and economic growth, together with a number of draft policies, as well as highlighting some other issues for consideration through the Local Plan process.

The new Local Plan will need to strike a balance between the need for development, regeneration and renewal and the protection of the natural and historic environment.

It will also need to make sure that future development takes place in a planned way, supported by improvements to highways, healthcare facilities and other local infrastructure, so that the local authority can continue to attract investment into Amber Valley to create job opportunities and good quality homes.

Comments were invited last year on a number of options for housing and economic growth.

The borough council has looked carefully at all of these comments and has now set out what it believes should be the level of new housing and economic growth in Amber Valley over the next 15-20 years, as well as where that growth should take place.

However, before finalising any policies and proposals, the borough council wants to provide a further opportunity for people to have their say by no later than 4.30 pm on Friday 2 September 2022.

The consultation is now under way and local residents, businesses and community groups can get involved by visiting https://www.ambervalley.gov.uk/planning/planning-policy/local-plan/

Further information is available from the Planning Policy team at ldf@ambervalley.gov.uk.
