A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter - The Dinosaurs are coming to Derby!

Published on Tuesday 7 June 2022

Can you hear booming footsteps? Is your cup of water vibrating? That’s because dinosaurs are on their way to Derby’s Cathedral Quarter.

Europe’s largest dinosaur Zeus the T-Rex will be joined by Tank the Triceratops and Emily Bronty as the special guests on the city’s Cathedral Green on Saturday 23rd July.

The dinosaurs are the star attraction at ‘A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter,’ a free family fun day, organised by the Cathedral Quarter BID (Business Improvement District).

The event had originally been advertised to take place on the Market Place, but the initial reaction has been so phenomenal that it has now been made even bigger with the main arena being situated at Cathedral Green and other elements taking place at Cathedral Square and the Waterfall.

As well as the dinosaurs in the main arena, there will be some smaller dinosaurs roaming the streets of Cathedral Quarter throughout the day, providing lots of opportunities for meet and greets and selfies with a whole host of different species including a Raptor, a Spinosaurus and a number of baby dinos!

Children are invited to train as a Dino Ranger where they can dress up and learn how to look after and control the wild dinosaurs, before visiting The Hatchery to meet new-born baby dinosaurs and learn how to feed and care for them in their early stages of life.

Some of the local businesses will also be getting involved with Tubo gift shop based in the Strand Arcade running a dinosaur hunt with the winner receiving a dinosaur themed prize and food and drink businesses offering discounted menus on the day.

“We always want to create events that put a smile on people’s faces and give them happy memories of coming to the Cathedral Quarter,” says Martin Langsdale, Chair of the Cathedral Quarter BID.

“What could be better than the chance to meet a dinosaur face-to-face? We can’t wait to let our Jurassic pals loose on the Cathedral Green and we’re sure that the day will be a ‘roaring’ success!”

Save a date in your diary to visit ‘A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter,’ from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 23rd July.
