Public invited to submit questions on Victim Support
Derbyshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster is to scrutinise Derbyshire Constabulary's work in relation to Victim Support & Safeguarding in her next Performance Scrutiny Meeting.
Commissioner Angelique Foster's role is to hold the Chief Constable Rachel Swann to account for delivering against the priorities set out in her Police and Crime Plan. A series of subject-specific meetings have been arranged to ensure there is detailed scrutiny of the force's performance.
Members of the public are invited to submit questions ahead of the next virtual meeting, due to take place on Wednesday 6 July at 10.30am.
Questions should be submitted in writing and cannot be in relation to current investigations.
Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster said: "The key function of the police is to tackle crime and catch criminals, but the force also has a vital role in safeguarding potential victims of crime and help people access the most appropriate support service when they need it.
"People in Derbyshire expect a lot from their police force and quite rightly want to be treated fairly and appropriately when they are victims of crime, regardless of the type of crime it is.
"During my Performance Scrutiny Meetings, the force has to provide evidence of the steps it is taking to safeguard our communities and areas where further improvement is needed. The meetings provide an effective way for me to hold the Chief Constable and her senior team to account for their performance.
"As part of my role as Police and Commissioner, I also have a duty to commission services for victims of crime in Derbyshire and to ensure they receive the help they need. This year I have invested over £4m (an increase of £75K compared to previous years) in a range of services that help victims recover from their experiences.
"I want members of the public to have full confidence in the victim services on offer, which is helping all victims of crime, receive dedicated support.
"The meeting also provides an opportunity for the public to highlight concerns on issues that matter the most to them. By submitting a question to my office, I can ensure that it is considered at the highest level."
The meeting will be recorded and published via the Commissioner's website and social media channels as soon as possible after its conclusion.
