Derbyshire plays host to the first event organised by growing online facebook group for women

Published on Tuesday 12 April 2022

In March 2022, 39 women of all ages and backgrounds and from all over the UK, including the midlands, Norfolk, Wales, Scotland, and Devon, all switched from online chat to real life laughs as they headed to Hollywood House in Belper, Derbyshire, for a post lockdown long weekend.

The ladies all belong to a rapidly growing online community called The She Musketeers, a Facebook group exclusively for women. Founder Naomi Carlin from Nottinghamshire started the group in December 2020 as a way to combat the isolation that was often felt during lockdown. Naomi says “Lockdown was a tough time for a lot of people, and many people were using social media to socialise. I had the idea to create this community, a safe place for women to talk, share ideas, ask questions, voice their issues and get support from others in a similar situation. It’s grown to be a place where ladies can share stories, get tips and advice and most importantly create lasting friendships. For me, it’s about reconnecting with who you wanted to be before real life got in the way.”

Once the lockdown lifted, Naomi made the decision to bring group members together in person to celebrate these newfound friendships and rejuvenate after a tough couple of years during the pandemic. Overwhelmed by the response, Naomi enlisted friend, colleague and group member Victoria Whyley, to find the ideal location for a getaway.

Victoria, also from Nottinghamshire, commented “I’ve never organised such a large-scale event before, but I knew that this was going to be very special. When we found Hollywood House, it just felt like the perfect match. The house provided a stunning backdrop as we brought group members together in real life rather than from behind a screen. I am very proud of what The She Musketeers have already achieved and look forward to planning our next event.”

A roaring success, members of the group were to quick to praise Naomi and Victoria;

“Originally, I was super anxious about the event, but in no time I felt at ease laughing and chatting to so many beautiful women. I had amazing weekend and will definitely attend more in future” – Alison McVetis.

“I started the weekend with anticipation but left with new friends. It was full of empowerment, support and laughter. A weekend I never knew I needed until I experienced it” Wendy Savill.

“What an experience! A truly lovely weekend and all because one young lady, Naomi Carlin, decided she would like to get a ‘few’ ladies together! Well done Naomi, you certainly did that!” Hilary Ragsdale.

The weekend catered for all tastes and provided a much needed break from the stress and strains of everyday life. There were games, jewellery making, makeup tutorials, pool parties, poem writing, plus an evening in Hollywood House’s onsite casino. Local businesses got involved too, with gift boxes from Carlton Packaging, catering for afternoon tea courtesy of Graze & Savour and a delicious three course meal provided by The Butlers Pantry. Each member received a welcome gift box filled with goodies donated by Badgequo, Wilko, KIN, Coty and Quest Personal Care.

Naomi concludes “I am overwhelmed by the success of The She Musketeers and our first event. We shut the world out for a few days and laughed. We laughed a lot. We had deep and meaningful conversations and shared amazing stories. Some of the ladies who came to Hollywood House knew each other from growing up or were friends beforehand but a lot were complete strangers. We all came away with new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime, and we cannot wait to host the next one”.
