The Amber Band scale new frights with Halloween album

Published on Wednesday 20 October 2021

THE kids are back at school, the nights are drawing in, a new series of Endeavour is on the telly and there’s a dirty great spider in the bath - but the best thing about autumn this year is the release of a new Halloween album by The Amber Band. It seems appropriate for a Derbyshire band to record Halloween-themed songs as we live in one of the most haunted counties in England.

Halloween Songs features 11 great original tracks by the Derbyshire five-piece, which, as they put it, are “specially created to petrify you on All Hallows Eve”.

The band noticed that the majority of Halloween playlists include songs that have been around a while like Monster Mash, Bad Moon Rising and the Addams Family theme. Simon Martin (bass) said, “They’re all great songs but we thought that people might like to hear some fresh Halloween songs for a change.

”There are some genuinely spooky songs on the album (listen to “Creeping up the Stairs” and “The Resurrection Men”) as well as fun songs like “Ghost Train” and “The Guilty Ghost”. Kevin Quinlan (guitar) said, “The scream on Halloween Song is authentic. We recorded Denise (keyboards) opening our new gas bill!”

The album is available on all major streaming sites, including Spotify, Amazon, Apple Music and iTunes and proceeds from all sales go to charity.  You may be able to obtain a CD by approaching the band directly (by messaging them on Facebook) but CDs are limited as the majority are donated to Derbyshire Air Ambulance and Oxfam. The CD includes a 12 page booklet with lyrics and artwork by Claire Quinlan.

The band are Simon Martin (bass/vocals), Ian Kirk (percussion/vocals) Paul Shirley (saxophone/flute), Denise Quinlan (keyboards/vocals) and Kevin Quinlan (guitars/vocals).

The Ambergate-based outfit formed in 2018 and have since released four albums, Songs, Salt & Gold, Christmas Songs and County Fair, together with an EP, Summer Daze.
