Local opticians take to the track for charity
FIVE colleagues at a Belper opticians are preparing to join the Derby Race for Life on Sunday 10 October in aid of a cancer research charity.
Co-workers Anna Wheatley, Charly Grimwood-Butler and Tara Parkin, all from Specsavers on King Street, will be digging their trainers out and running 10 kilometres to raise money for their chosen charity, Cancer Research UK. Also taking on the challenge are optical advisors at Specsavers Belper, Annie Fletcher and Abby Rogers, who are both walking five kilometres for the same cause. The event takes place at Markeaton Park, Markeaton, Derby.
Cancer Research UK works to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, a disease which will affect one in two of us in our lifetimes. The Race for Life runners are hoping to raise as much as possible for the charity, and have set up a fundraising page which can be found here: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/ann-maries-race-for-life-317.
‘Everyone at the store is really excited to be taking part in the Race for Life – cancer is close to lots of people’s hearts, so we’re happy to be completing the challenge for such an important cause,’ says Annie. ‘So far we’ve raised £300 but we would love to be able to give £500 to Cancer Research UK, so we’d be really grateful for any support.’
In line with guidance from the NHS, Specsavers is keeping safety measures in place, including the wearing of face coverings, unless there is a medical exemption. This includes maintaining social distancing in stores, continuing to use PPE and sanitising all testing equipment and frames before and after each use. Doors will be kept open whenever possible to improve ventilation and although card payments are still preferred, cash payments will be accepted too.
Specsavers will also continue to operate its Ask The Expert chat function on its website and its RemoteCare service, which enable customers to speak to an expert from the comfort of their home via video call or phone.
