Tractors are Coming to Windmill!

Published on Friday 17 September 2021

Old tractors are fascinating machines and we are delighted to welcome once again a collection of various models of these machines to our Grade 2* listed windmill for the 15th time!

Tractors always attract the crowds and the ever-popular collection of Vintage and Veteran machines will be at Heage Windmill on Sunday, September 26th from 11-00am until 3.30pm. These old pieces of machinery complement the 225-year-old 2 star listed windmill and they were responsible for changing farming practices forever, helping to make horses redundant. We are expecting about 20 to 30 at the mill and these will include a 60-year-old Fordson Major, some David Browns, together with Field Marshalls and Massey Fergusons, most of which   have been restored to pristine working condition. We are also expecting a steam engine and barn engine to be on site plus an assortment of small portable steam engines. The mill will award a certificate to what is judged to be the ‘Tractor of the Day’. John Allsop, who organises the Tractor group said ‘All our group enjoy coming to Heage windmill – we love tractors but also this lovely old windmill’.

The 2021 season is the 19th since restoration of the mill in 2002 and she is now in full working order.  Refreshments, Burger Van, Bric a Brac (weather permitting) and of course tours of windmill, will be available. If we get some wind, we will even be able to offer flour for sale!
