Help available to cut down Antisocial Behaviour

Published on Thursday 9 September 2021

Funding to tackle antisocial behaviour (ASB) is available from Derbyshire Police and Crime Commissioner Angelique Foster’s Antisocial Behaviour Prevention Grant.  This new dedicated funding stream has been set up in response to feedback from local residents, parish and town councils and community groups.

The Grant, worth a total £100k, is designed to help local groups and organisations, including parish and town councils, to take a stand against the problems that bring misery to their communities. The funding is available in grants of up to £5k.

The fund has been established to support projects that respond to issues already highlighted by local residents and will also provide vital help for initiatives designed to prevent problems from developing in the first place.

Applications are welcomed from innovative projects such as sports and creative arts diversionary programmes to drop-ins for young people, mentoring and parental support.  Other projects could include better lighting, CCTV and community clean-ups. The Commissioner will also consider applications from organisations that offer some level of matched funding.

Commissioner Angelique Foster said: “People repeatedly tell me that they have concerns about antisocial behaviour. This fund aims to help local communities tackle the problem head on and hopefully find lasting solutions.

“Local communities are acutely aware of what is happening and when.  I know that if they have the resources to work with local agencies and voluntary groups, they will all achieve far more.

“I want to make sure every community suffering these problems feels supported and is equipped with the resources and knowledge to deliver swift action when it is needed.

“I urge any organisation who believes they can help make their communities safer and reduce the fear of crime to get in touch. I am keen to hear about their plans.”

Since the Covid health crisis, calls in relation to antisocial behaviour in Derbyshire have soared by almost 70%. This is reflected in cases being managed by Derbyshire Victim’s Services.
