New health support website for Derbyshire families

Published on Friday 16 July 2021

A new website offering a free one-stop shop for health support for Derbyshire families with children of all ages, has been launched by the children’s services team at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust:  www.derbyshirefamilyhealthservice.nhs.uk.

The new website – called the Derbyshire Family Health Service - brings together expert advice and information from healthcare professionals working in the county’s public health and wellbeing services for 0-19 year-olds.

Among the topics covered are health visiting, infant feeding and nutrition, public health (school) nursing, school age immunisations, children’s continence and oral health promotion.

Many of the services have continued to support families throughout the pandemic and have adapted the way in which the services have been delivered, as part of the wider NHS Covid-19 response.

Gill Levick, children’s 0-19 service general manager for Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust, said, "We’re delighted to be launching the new Derbyshire Family Health Service website. It has been tailormade to provide parents, carers and professionals with a range of health and wellbeing information, to support families across Derbyshire and signpost to our healthcare professionals where needed.”

Councillor Carol Hart, Derbyshire County Council’s cabinet member for health and communities, said: "Ensuring that children get the best possible start in life is really important and we’re pleased to be able to support parents and carers with this new website.

"It’s full of useful information including support around feeding and nutrition, pregnancy health, and advice around emotional health and wellbeing too.”

The new website covers a range of health and wellbeing topics for families, including breastfeeding support, baby sleep, toddler potty training, childhood developmental stages, minor illnesses, teen health and wellbeing and a focus on looking after yourself – maternal/ paternal mental health and wellbeing.

The infant feeding and nutrition team also has a live chat function on the website, weekdays, 9.30am – 12 noon (except bank holidays), to support parents and carers with any issues or questions around feeding or weaning their baby.

Along with the website a new group Facebook page @DerbysFamilyHealth provides weekly advice and top tips for families.

Young people have been hugely impacted by events over the past year and the new teen health and wellbeing pages, aimed at 11-19 year olds, along with the launch of the public health (school) nurses @DerbysTeenHealth Instagram page, will provide health and wellbeing information, myth busting, and signposting support to where young people can seek further advice around their emotional and physical health.

The website will continue to evolve, with local baby group information and short videos for tops tips around mental health advice for both children and parents and carers, as well as preparing families for their children starting school or moving to secondary school and other key themes that have been requested by parents and carers.
