Let mango take you to the movies this summer

Published on Wednesday 31 March 2021

A summer of outdoor movie screenings in Derbyshire’s Derwent Valley by QUAD, Derby’s centre for art and film, is being backed by trentbarton’s mango ticketing app.

trentbarton, QUAD and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Partnership (DVMWHS) are teaming up for ‘mango Presents Cinema in the Valley’ in August and September, which has also benefited from funding from National Lottery Heritage Fund & Arts Council England through the DVMWHS Partnership’s Great Place Scheme.

The blockbuster screenings of favourite films are being sponsored by the mango app, with trentbarton putting on additional buses to enable film fans to easily get to the valley locations and home again.

Locations for the screenings include Belper, Darley Abbey and Cromford. Screening dates, the films being shown and how to book tickets can be found below. Tickets are on sale at midday on Wednesday, March 31, and are expected to sell quickly.

Jeff Counsell, managing director of trentbarton, said: “mango is all about giving our customers value for money, as well as an easy and flexible way to travel, including for leisure.

“After the year we’ve all had, everyone is looking forward to getting out to enjoy the summer and what better way for film fans than to jump on a bus to watch a magical movie outdoors in our wonderful Derwent Valley.”

Dr Alex Rock, at Derby QUAD, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing outdoor cinema to the historic surroundings of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. These screenings will give people the opportunity to see the unique heritage of our county in a new light and have lots of fun too.

“QUAD has over ten years’ experience of running outdoor cinema events nationwide, but this summer I’m looking forward to hopping on the sixes and enjoying these screenings in our own beautiful county.”

Professor Ian Whitehead, Chair of the DVMWHS Great Place Scheme Board, said: “Cinema in the Valley was a project we wanted to support through our Great Place Scheme Funding to bring QUAD’s successful format to locations in the World Heritage Site. We’re excited to welcome film-goers to the Derwent Valley.”

Tickets available from summernightsfilm.co.uk, priced at £15 adults and £10 under 12s, with group discounts available.

Discounted tickets are available to mango customers at £12 adults and £8 under 12s. To access this discount, simply download mango and register; purchase links will be available through the app.
