Key Priorities Unveiled In Derbyshire County Councils New Plan
Derbyshire County Council has set out its key priorities for the next four years in its new Council Plan.
With the title `Working for Derbyshire’, the authority’s new Council Plan covers 2021-2025 and outlines the council’s ambitions, values and achievements, as well as detailing how it will deliver on its key priorities. It also sets out the headline initiatives to be progressed over the next four years.
Following a consultation where Derbyshire residents, partner organisations and council employees were encouraged to give their views on the draft plan, it has now been agreed by the council and people can read it by going to www.derbyshire.gov.uk/councilplan2021
The plan, with a foreword by county council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis, details key accomplishments by services from across the council, highlights the council’s budget and how it is spent and the challenges and opportunities currently, and in the years ahead.
Councillor Barry Lewis said: “The pandemic has meant the last 12 months have been challenging, with additional strains placed on budgets and the way we work and deliver services.
“The new Council Plan demonstrates how we have managed this and how we can do things differently, be more agile and flexible and work even more closely with our partners, businesses and communities.
“We have used our resources wisely to try to mitigate the impact of coronavirus, and it is this continued enterprising and dynamic approach that will be key to economic and community recovery as we move forward.
“Our aims and ambitions for Derbyshire are all set out clearly in this plan and our approach to delivering services remains steadfast. This authority will continue to support individuals, businesses and communities to get on in life and make a difference to where they live, giving them the tools they need to recover, rebuild and thrive.”
The new Council Plan details:

• The council’s strategic approach – Vision Derbyshire, Enterprising Council and Thriving Communities
• Key service facts and figures
• Budget details
• Key council achievements
• Challenges and opportunities – coronavirus pandemic, financial challenges and climate change
• The four key priorities for 2021-25 and headline initiatives (see below)
• Key actions and how the plan will be delivered.
The four key priorities for the council are:
• Resilient, healthy and safe communities
• High performing, value for money and resident-focused services
• Effective early help for individuals and communities
• A prosperous and green Derbyshire.
The headline initiatives, detailed for the first time, include:
• leading the county’s economic and community recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic creating a £15m fund to support local businesses and residents in need
• Investing £40m in well maintained roads and pathways and developing sustainable methods of travel
• taking action on climate change, providing community grants for sustainable and green projects and launching the Green Entrepreneurs scheme to help local people and businesses to reduce carbon emissions
• continuing the ongoing transformation of social care to improve outcomes and make the most effective use of resources.
