Belper tearooms nears completion
Despite supply chain issues during the pandemic, Belper’s eagerly-awaited new Swiss Tearoom is on schedule for opening in late spring.
The exterior cladding of Siberian larch timber has just been fixed, an internal timber ceiling has been installed and window installers and decorators are also about to start work.
The new building will also benefit from an environmentally-friendly air source heat pump that will deliver renewably sourced heat and water. The pump has been supplied free-of-charge by Belper-based Valiant Group.
Prior to the officially opening it is hoped that the tearooms’ operator, Deep Beat Entertainment will be offering a take-away service for drinks and light refreshments from a pop-up facility in the River Gardens, and are currently in the process of applying for a licence.
Commented Councillor Ben Bellamy, portfolio holder for regeneration and community safety: "Although we have been waiting a long time for the new tea rooms to take shape, the timing for its opening is perfect, just as the lockdown restrictions begin to ease and the weather improves. I would like to say a big thank-you to Valiant for their very generous gift of the air source heat pump for the new building."
Councillor Ben Bellamy and Councillor Emma Monkman – Deputy cabinet member for environment, take a look inside the new Tearooms.
