Derbyshire welcomes the latest cohort of trainee Firefighters to the Service

Published on Tuesday 9 March 2021

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service has welcomed 12 new wholetime trainee Firefighters who are the latest cohort to begin a 15 week initial training course at the Service’s joint police and fire training centre in Ripley.

The latest trainees, who make up wholetime training course 110, were welcomed to the Service earlier this week by Derbyshire’s Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive (CFO) Gavin Tomlinson.

CFO Tomlinson said: “It is an honour to meet the latest trainee Firefighters to join the Service as they begin what I know will be an exciting and fulfilling career.

“The twelve trainees who make up course 110, join nine trainee on-call Firefighters who have already started their journey and are also undertaking an initial course to prepare them with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to emergencies across the county.

“All of the trainees joining us have their own reasons for wanting to become a Firefighter. A common theme is the pride they feel in knowing they will serve their community; responding to incidents when our communities are most in need and working to prevent emergencies from happening. They will all learn new skills that will prepare them for this work and I look forward to following their journey through training over the coming weeks and their careers as they progress in the future.”

As it is On-Call Firefighter Awareness Week, you can also meet some of the On-Call trainees in a video showing them undertaking their breathing apparatus (BA) training, filmed earlier this week.
