Amber Valley Borough Council Secures £700,000 grant towards carbon neutrality by 2030

Published on Saturday 27 February 2021

Amber Valley Borough Council has been awarded a grant of £700,000, by the Government, to help it achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

The council made a successful bid to the highly competitive Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, which is designed to help local authorities reduce carbon produced by their buildings.

The biggest emitters of carbon were identified as the Ripley headquarters and the Town Hall buildings, where a range of measures will be installed by the end of 2021 and include:

When the work is completed and measures implemented, it is estimated 82 tonnes of carbon emissions will be saved each year.

A recent report showed that the council has reduced its carbon emissions by over 55% in the last 10 years, and is on target to achieve carbon neutrality by its target date of 2030.

Council Leader, Chris Emmas-Williams, commented: "This is fantastic news for the council. It is thanks to the hard work of our dedicated team, and is a further demonstration of our commitment to reduce carbon. In addition to measures we’ve already introduced, like solar panels on the town hall and the Forest for the Future Tree Planting programme, this represents another huge step towards meeting our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030."
