Town Council Continues fight for step free access at Alfreton station.
At its meeting last week the Town Council heard an update from Network Rail on the long promised works to deliver step free access to the station, and from the Derbyshire Law Society who continue to pursue a discrimination claim against both Network Rail and East Midlands Railways. The meeting heard how Network Rail are now looking to complete the work by the end of next year, subject to no complications.
Council Leader Councillor Scott Walker told the meeting that whilst the news from Network Rail was welcome, it should not be forgotten that this was the latest date provided in a long list of previously broken promises, and the delivery of the project was still reliant on government funding, which they had previously withdrawn when we reached a similar position. The meeting agreed to write again to local MP's and continue to support the Derbyshire Law Society.
