Tribute to former Council Chairman
Amber Valley Borough Council has paid tribute to a former Chairman of the Council, Councillor Ralph Jowett, who passed away on 5 December. The Amber Valley flag on Ripley Town Hall will fly at half-mast until the funeral.
Ralph Jowett was Chairman of the Council in 1984/5. He represented Alfreton West Ward and served on the following committees between 1979 and 1988 – Housing Committee, Planning and Development Committee, Recreation and Amenities Committee and Resources Committee.
Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council, Councillor Chris Emmas-Williams said, "Ralph was Chairman of Amber Valley just before I got elected but he was very helpful to me and served with my mother on the council. His service on different committees shows just how experienced he was and a very active councillor.
"He was also very active in the community and was instrumental in erecting the Christmas lights in Ripley for many years. I send my sincere condolences and our thoughts are with his family at this sad time especially Councillor David Jowett who is the current Chair of Codnor Parish Council."
