Mayor's draw for Air Ambulance
A long-awaited raffle is set to help keep air ambulances in the skies and saving lives.
Covid-19 intervened after Amber Valley Mayor John Walker launched the fund-raising effort in Alfreton in the autumn.
Dozens of tickets were sold by the staff and owners of Naughty but Nice, a café on Severn Square. Like so many others, the business had to shut during the worst of the pandemic.
Now Councillor Walker is to make the draw in the café on August 13, starting at 4pm. Later he will announce how much has been raised for the air ambulance service which covers Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.
He said, "We had no financial target and sold a lot of tickets in just a few weeks. But it all had to stop very unfortunately due to the pandemic."
There are more than 70 prizes. One is a football signed by the Derby County squad including Wayne Rooney.
Thornton's provided chocolates while other prizes came from the Alfreton branches of Boots and Tesco. Denby Pottery donated a teapot.
Alfreton Town FC gave a family ticket. It will admit two adults and two children for a game when the season starts next month.
Winning tickets will give free entry to the Crich Tramway Museum while other Amber Valley attractions also donated passes.
The Phoenix Bowls Club took a major role in selling tickets but members were also hampered by the pandemic.
