Heritage Walks Return To Belper North Mill
BELPER NORTH MILL Sunday Heritage Walks are back! – here is the August program. All walks begin at 2.00pm and further details including meeting point are on the booking website below. Places are limited to ensure social distancing and COVID-19 secure working and so bookings are essential on wegottickets.com/belpernorthmill

Discover 700 years of Belper's history, from the aftermath of the Norman conquest, to the coming of the cotton industry. Involves steep gradients and some stony or woodland paths, so stout footwear is recommended. Over two hours.
9 August at 2.00pm Mysteries and Quirks of Belper Parks led by Trevor GriffinThere is a very mysterious area right in the heart of Belper. We know a lot about the deer park from research, but this has raised many intriguing questions that you may have your own ideas on. You will also hear about numerous unexpected and quirky things that have been discovered. Could be muddy.
16 August at 2.00pm Milford's west side led by Jane WhitakerCovers Milford's west side looking at the development of the housing, community buildings and the railway. Find out what it was like to have the Strutts as your landlord and why the community of Swainsley Court no longer exists – and where the people of Milford wanted their own railway station. The route takes us up the steep Sunnyhill to Stephenson's tower and a short distance across the Chevin before descending a steep and often muddy footpath. Over two hours.
23 August at 2.00pm Building Belper – where the stone came from led by Trevor GriffinCombining the recent discoveries of "Delving along the Derwent", the heritage mapping project and some earlier work, this walk will follow what is now thought to be a purpose-built trackway used by the Strutts to bring stone from Crich Lane, as well as exploring the quarries. Steep initial climb. Over two hours.
30 August at 2.00pm Alderwasley – England's oldest village hall led by John MorrisseyWe begin at 'England's Oldest Village Hall' and explore the parish to discover beautiful views over the Derwent Valley. 4 miles. Over two hours.
Walking boots required.
