Alfreton-based Quality Solicitors Chapman & Chubb celebrate national award shortlisting for involvement with charity scheme

A pioneering scheme developed by the UK’s leading network of legal firms Quality Solicitors and children’s charity Barnardo’s has been shortlisted for a national award.

The Barnardo’s Will Scheme has been shortlisted for the Best Legacy or In-Memoriam Campaign at the voluntary sector’s flagship ceremony, the Institute of Fundraising National Awards.

The shortlisted campaign gives participants the opportunity to include a legacy in their Wills to Barnardo’s at no cost to them, via a local solicitor from QualitySolicitors.

QualitySolicitors Chapman & Chubb have supported the partnership from the beginning in 2010. Since then, over 4000 participants have written their Will using the national scheme, helping to build Barnardo’s future legacies. Legacy income is vital to ensure Barnardo’s will be there in the future for children to turn to and thanks to the generosity of those that have left a gift in their Will, the charity will be able to continue to be there for the most vulnerable.

Barnardo’s runs a number of services across the North Midlands area including a large support service for care leavers in Derbyshire, helping them bridge the gap between leaving care and living in the adult world. Support workers help young people to develop life skills to look after themselves, including help to find employment, training or further education and accommodation, as well as offering mentoring and counselling where necessary.

Jill Walker, participant of the Will Scheme said ‘You only have to hear the plight of one Barnardo’s child and the memory stays with you forever. This highly regarded charity, with its wonderful history and a bright progressive future, was a natural choice as a major beneficiary of my Will, in the knowledge that it will enrich the lives of many children in the years to come. The partnership with QualitySolicitors enabled me to remember Barnardo’s through a professionally written Will, the process was simple, has given me peace of mind and it didn’t cost me a penny!’

Aileen Chapman, Partner at QS Chapman & Chubb, said: “We are delighted that the Barnardo’s & QualitySolicitors Will Scheme has been recognised by the National Fundraising Awards. Not only has the scheme helped raise vital funds for one of the UK’s leading charities, it’s also helped to provide many with peace of mind that their assets are properly protected whilst donating to a good cause in the process.”

Sam Monaghan, Barnardo’s Corporate Director of Children’s Services, added: “The success of the Barnardo’s Will Scheme will make a huge difference to the lives of the thousands of vulnerable children that we work with every year. By making a commitment to Barnardo’s in their Wills, people are helping us to transform the lives of some of society’s most disadvantaged children, such as those who have suffered sexual abuse and those who are leaving care. On behalf of all the children and families we support, we’d like to say a huge thank you to QualitySolicitors for their continued support and fundraising throughout our partnership. We hope that this will encourage even more people to consider leaving something behind to those in need through their Wills.”

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Brewery in London on the 3rd of July, the first day of the Institute of Fundraising’s annual Convention.
