Property marking and crime prevention event for residents in Morton

Published on Thursday 22 June 2017

A free property marking and crime prevention event is set to take place this weekend to help residents in Morton protect their valuables.

Officers from the North Wingfield, Pilsley, Stonebroom and Shirland Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team are joining forces with the local Neighbourhood Watch group for the event on Saturday, June 24.

You are invited to bring any portable items, such as bicycles, garden equipment or tools, mobile phones or tablets, laptops or other electricals along to Morton Village Hall between 10am and 1pm so that officers can help you security mark your valuables for free.

It is also an opportunity for people to meet their local Safer Neighbourhood officers and Neighbourhood Watch members, and speak about any issues of concerns.

PCSO Kate Hodnett said: “We hold these events in our local villages quite regularly, and it’s a great way for us to help residents reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.

“Security marking your property makes it more difficult for items to be sold on and therefore makes them less attractive to steal. It can also help the police to return any goods that are recovered to their owners, and may also help provide evidence to bring an offender to justice.”

For more information, or if you have property you would like to be marked but are unable to attend or bring them along, please contact PCSO Kate Hodnett on 101, or send her a message online by visiting the My Local Police pages of our website by clicking here.

You can also follow the North Wingfield, Pilsley, Stonebroom and Shirland Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team on Twitter: @SouthEasternSNT.
