Potential Foster Carers Invited To Drop In To Talk Events

Published on Monday 24 April 2017

Potential foster carers are being invited to a series of drop-in events organised by Derbyshire County Council as part of Foster Care Fortnight.

Visitors will be able to speak to local foster carers about their experiences and the county council’s fostering team will be on hand to talk to potential carers.

This year national Foster Care Fortnight runs from 8 – 21 May 2017.

Residents who have a spare room and are interested in fostering can drop into any of the sessions below. They can bring the family and they don’t need an appointment.

Wednesday 10 May, 5pm-7pm, Green Bank Leisure Centre, Civic Way, Swadlincote, DE11 0AD

Thursday 11 May, 4pm-6pm, Ripley Library, Grosvenor Road, Ripley, DE5 3JE

Saturday 13 May, 10am-12pm, Buxton Methodist Church, Chapel Street, Buxton, SK17 6HX

Saturday 13 May, 11am-1pm, Queen's Park Sports Centre, Boythorpe Road, Chesterfield, S40 2ND

Tuesday 16 May, 5pm-7pm, County Hall, Matlock, DE4 3AG

Wednesday 17 May, 4pm-6pm, Glossop Library, Victoria Hall, Talbot Street, Glossop, SK13 7DQ

Derbyshire County Council Strategic Director for Children’s Services Jane Parfrement said: “Being a foster carer is one of the most important and rewarding jobs you can do.

“I would urge anyone thinking about fostering to come along to one of the drop-in events. Information about training, support and payments will be available and visitors will also be able to speak to foster carers about their experiences.

“Foster carers help us to give children a loving, stable home and help them look forward to the future.”

Foster carers receive weekly fostering payments with additional allowances and get full training and support.

Carers can offer short or long-term homes, ranging from single-night emergency stays to placements which last for several years.

Potential foster carers can find out more by emailing fostering@derbyshire.gov.uk, visiting www.derbyshire.gov.uk/fostering  or by calling the county council’s fostering team on 0800 083 77 44.
