Grand Opening of Heage Windmill!
It has become a tradition that Heage Windmill’s ‘formal’ opening was always Easter Saturday, but this year Easter is so late that the doors were first opened on April 1st.
However, not to be out done our ‘formal’ opening this year will still be Easter Saturday, April 15th at 11-00am. Radio Derby presenter Aleena Naylor, who lives locally , will make a dignified entrance – driving herself to the mill on a vintage tractor, a delight not shared by many people!
She will be welcomed by the chair of Heage Windmill Society, Piers Bostock, supported by the chair of the Friends of the mill, Cllr Angela Ward.
After a few words marking the fact that this will be the 15th season the mill has been opened to the public, Aleena will tour the mill and see for herself the amazing machinery which first produced flour some 220 years ago – and continues to do so after being restored , following a huge project , in 2002.
The mill prides itself that visitors are guided round such that they can fully appreciate the people who operated her in the past and the equipment that was first used so long ago.
Tours will then be available to all over the holiday weekend, marked also on Monday 17th , by an all day EASTER egg hunt round the mill, under the supervision of the ever popular ‘Woosmary Wabbit’.
The windmill will be open during 2017 (11-00am to 4-00pm) every weekend from
April 1st until the end of October.
