Helping Hand for Housing in Ripley
A free housing advice service is now available in Ripley to help townsfolk cope with economic pressures.
Chesterfield Law Centre has been awarded an increase in legal aid funding by the Legal Services Commission to extend its housing advice service to cover the whole of Derbyshire.
The firm has now set up a satellite office at the Amber Valley CVS premises on Market Place for townsfolk to talk to solicitors about housing issues such as prevention of homelessness and evictions, return of bonds or deposits, rent arrears and under-occupation of bedrooms
The Law Centre’s senior solicitor Tony McIlveen, said: “With all the cuts to legal aid we are very lucky to have won this contract.”
John Duncan, chair of Chesterfield Law Centre’s management committee, added: “With this contract and our other funding from Chesterfield Borough Council, Derbyshire County Council and North East Derbyshire District Council, we are in an extremely fortunate position to be able to continue to provide free specialist legal advice in housing across Derbyshire.”
People on low incomes anywhere in Derbyshire can also get free housing advice by ringing freephone 0800 707 6990.
