Commissioner starts his search for Derbyshire's next Chief Constable

Published on Saturday 25 February 2017

The search for Derbyshire's next Chief Constable is now underway. Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa has launched his recruitment campaign to appoint an inspirational new leader for Derbyshire Constabulary.

The position is currently being advertised in print and online media and following a rigorous selection process it is anticipated a new Chief Constable will be in position by 1 June 2017.

The move follows the decision of the current Chief Constable Mick Creedon to retire after 10 years in post.

Hardyal Dhindsa said today that he was seeking not just the best candidate, but the best individual for Derbyshire. "This is a once in a life-time career opportunity for the right person. I, and indeed Derbyshire residents, are seeking an inspirational leader with the skill and experience to build on the solid foundations already in place. Someone who shares my own ambition and vision to deliver a high-quality policing service.

"This will be someone who can tackle the new and emerging threats to safety, who can implement change, embrace diversity and who welcomes a partnership-driven agenda.

"As a consistently high-performing force it's important that we appoint someone with the experience to sustain and improve still further on this enviable position. The interview process has been designed to be extremely rigorous, with the widest possible range of skills being put to the test."

A highly-experienced interview panel, chaired by the Commissioner, will put each candidate through their paces.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on 17 March 2017, with shortlisting on 23 March 2017. Interviews are planned for 31 March 2017.

Further information and the application pack is available at: http://www.derbyshire-pcc.gov.uk/chiefconstable
