Amber Valley Borough Council On course for Local Plan adoption

Published on Wednesday 22 February 2017

The Borough Council remains on course to secure an adopted Local Plan for Amber Valley by March 2018.

At a meeting of the Full Council on 1 March, councillors will be asked to agree policies and proposals that will be included in a Draft Local Plan for public consultation.

Of particular interest will be the list of potential sites for housing development across the Borough. Officers have assessed over 100 potential sites, including sites submitted by landowners and prospective developers, taking account of issues such as Green Belt, landscape sensitivity, flood risk and heritage. Twenty three sites are recommended for inclusion in the Draft Local Plan and these additional sites will help fulfil the identified housing need over the plan period up to 2028.

It is anticipated that the Draft Local Plan will be published on 10 March for public consultation for a period of six weeks up to 21 April. The documentation will be available to view on the Council’s website, as well as in hard copy form at the Town Hall, Ripley and at all of the public libraries within the Borough (and at Mackworth Library within Derby), during normal opening hours. There will also be a number of events held in key locations across the Borough during the consultation period to provide local communities with the opportunity to view and discuss policies and proposals with officers.

Any representations received during the public consultation period will be considered by officers before preparing and publishing a Pre-Submission Local Plan, which will be the document that the Council considers to be ready for examination. The Pre-Submission Local Plan will be published by the Council for a period of 6 weeks, to enable representations to be made, before it is formally submitted for examination.
