TCAA & TCT Receives Donations From Strong Survive Derbyshire

Published on Friday 20 January 2017

On Saturday 14th January 2017, Strong Survive Derbyshire (a local motorcycle club) donated £600.00 to the Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA) and League of Zeal MCC donated £500.00 to the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT)

Strong Survive members presented volunteer, Richard Fletcher a Derbyshire Representative for TCAA, & Joanne Benbow TCT Regional Fundraiser for the East Midlands with the money at The Canal Inn at Bullbridge near Ambergate. The money was raised when Strong Survive hosted an excellent custom and classic bike show on Sunday 25th September 2016, at the Hurt Arms, Derby Road, Ambergate DE56 2EJ – showing off different bikes to appeal to all riders while raising money for TCAA & TCT; it featured five custom show categories: Chopper, Lowrider, Custom Streetfighter, Trike and Classic, as well as an overall Best in Show. The event had refreshment, craft & tombola stalls and a special raffle with prizes donated by local business. They had some great music too, League of Zeal MCC provided the food stalls; from the sale of food and drinks and a collection box at their stall they raised £500 for TCT.

Strong Survive would like to say a very special thanks to the wives and girlfriends, without their help this show would not be possible. Strong Survive would also like to thank all their friends & family, all the people who donated and supported this event, the show category sponsors, and our friend Weli for helping to design the Tee-Shirts and Posters; The Hurts Arms for giving us the venue, League of Zeal MCC who provided the fantastic food for the event and last but not least everyone that attended the Custom Show without their support the show wouldn’t have been such a fantastic success.

Richard said: “I was delighted to be presented with the money from Strong Survive, they have done an amazing job. On the day so many volunteered their time and I was also there providing support and help. TCAA relies entirely on donations from members of the public as it receives no Government or National Lottery funding. Therefore, support from people such as Strong Survive Derbyshire and the team of volunteers really are invaluable and will go a long way to helping to keep our lifesaving service flying and saving lives.”

Joanne says: “We’re hugely grateful for the support of League of Zeal and Strong Survive MCC’s, and of course to everyone who attended this brilliant event! Around seven young people are diagnosed with cancer in the UK every day. The support of events like this ensure that these young people will get the best treatment, care and support, from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer’.”

Strong Survive is planning to hold the event annually and will be raising more money for the Air Ambulance Service & Teenage Cancer Trust for the next event we have a provisional date of 24th September 2017, please keep your eyes open for the posters.

League of Zeal MCC is planning to hold their annual event 'Old Goats Grumble 3' family friendly music festival on the weekend 7/8/9th July 2017 at Sycamore Farm, Shottle and tickets are available via our website www.loz-mcc.co.uk or tel 0786065341 and will be raising more money for Teenage Cancer Trust.

TCT was formed in 1990, before this there was no specialist cancer care for young people offered within the NHS. Now there are 28 specialist units and teams of expert nurses and youth support staff in NHS hospitals across the UK, offering young people with cancer the very best care and support from the moment they are diagnosed, throughout treatment, and after treatment has finished.

TCAA was formed in 2012 and has carried out more than 200 transfer missions and saved many lives in the process, TCAA is a national service, flying critically ill children from one hospital to another for specialist care. We are the first and only dedicated paediatric helicopter emergency transfer service in the country. The bespoke, specialist equipment on board our helicopter provides a flying intensive care unit for children. When a child is too sick to fly, we fly a specialist team to them. With flight times, commonly over four times quicker than transfer by road, in many cases, time saved is a life saved.

TCAA relies entirely on donations from members of the public as it receives no Government or National Lottery funding. The average cost of our transfers is £2,800. It costs £134,000 per month to run the service. If you would like to hold an event, support us with a collection tin, volunteer for us or if would like to make a donation.
