Police money matters meeting opens to public in South Normanton
Residents who want to see how an independent committee helps to monitor Derbyshire's value for money policing services are being urged by Derbyshire's Police and Crime Commissioner to attend its next meeting in South Normanton.
Members of the Joint Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee (JARAC) are all independent of both the Commissioner and the Chief Constable, Mick Creedon. Meeting four times a year at different locations around the county, the committee's tasks include the continuing review of value for money services provided under the Commissioner's and the Chief's governance.
The meeting will be held at the Post Mill Centre on Thursday, 22 September at 11am.
The job of JARAC members is to provide independent assurance of the adequacy of four main areas. One of these concerns the risk management and internal control framework operated by the Commissioner and the Chief; another is the financial reporting process.
The Commissioner is considering holding public meetings such as his Strategic Governance Board in different areas of the county, possibly outside normal working hours. He is asking anyone interested in hosting such a meeting to get in touch with his office.
"I'm keen to give more members of the public the opportunity to come along if they are interested," Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa said. "I want to make it as easy as possible for more residents to attend and observe the scrutiny and transparency that is a hallmark of my approach.
"It is so important to open the door to meetings like these so that people feel more aware and in the loop about how the services they pay for are governed."
