The Town Council has reacted angrily to the lack of consultation with the local community on plans for a solar farm stretching from Chesterfield Road to Oakerthorpe. Last week's council meeting heard how a sparsely advertised roadshow was attended by just three people and an obscure website had just seventeen hits. There was also concern that the application borders an apparent extension of the solar farm at Alfreton Brook, which was not referenced in the application, and identical community engagement statements have been included in two separate applications.
Councillor David Taylor, Chair of Planning expressed his concern to the meeting around both the lack of consultation with residents and the absence of any section 106 planning gain contribution to compensate the community for the impact of the development. He went on to raise concerns about proposed access to build and maintain the site via the narrow and congested Church Street. The Council resolved to write to the Developer and planning authorities and ask for the application to be withdrawn, until such time as appropriate consultation with local residents has been completed. The access and section 106 contributions will also be highlighted.
