Heanor Leisure centre named best in the UK
The very best leisure centre in the UK is in Heanor – and that’s official!
Amber Valley Borough Council’s William Gregg VC Leisure Centre has been named ‘Leisure Centre of the Year’ in the prestigious Flame fitness industry awards. And that was not the only good news to emerge from a glittering awards ceremony in Telford - Alfreton Leisure Centre was also a finalist for the same award and Places for People Leisure Ltd, who manage the leisure centre on behalf of Amber Valley Borough Council, won ‘Leisure Centre Operator of the Year’.
Awarded annually by the industry body, ukactive, this much coveted award attracted a record number of submissions from the leisure centres across the UK. The FLAME (Fitness Leadership and Management Excellence) Awards recognise and applaud excellence and best practice within the health and fitness industry. The submissions are evaluated by a team of experienced, independent assessors.
Commenting on the award, Jackie Goacher, Contract Manager at William Gregg VC Leisure Centre said: “Each and every employee works to deliver outstanding customer service and provide high quality facilities for the communities we serve. I am absolutely delighted that we have won the award as competition this year was harder than ever.”
Commented Amber Valley Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Housing and Public Health, Councillor Tony Holmes: “This is a tremendous achievement from the team at William Gregg VC Leisure Centre that puts Amber Valley right at the forefront of the UK fitness industry. I hope this encourages even more local people to take advantage of the tremendous leisure facilities they have on their doorstep.”
CEO of ukactive, David Stalker commented: “The Flame awards assessment process is known for being the most rigorous in the industry, so to just to make it into the list of finalists is a phenomenal achievement. To go home with the top prize in your category is the ultimate endorsement of hard work, dedication and excellence. The Flame awards winners are undeniably the best of the best and a credit to our sector.”
