An Update From Heage Windmill
There have been a number of enquires about when Heage windmill might re-open for tours and other activities.
The Trustees, and indeed some of the Friends of Heage Windmill, have just carried out a careful assessment of the current situation, including potentially opening up just the mill grounds for other activities, such as family picnics. The mill itself is far too small to permit social distancing.
The view is:
- that too many of our volunteers and their families are in the ‘vulnerable’ category
- that conforming to government restrictions placed on opening locations such as ours would be difficult
- that we feel we can cope financially in 2020.
When taken together, these all mean we CANNOT see it possible for us to safely re-open for anything other than flour sales at present. We will continue to mill grain and sell flour whenever the wind and availability of suitable volunteers permits. We will continue carrying out essential maintenance to the mill and the site. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for future sale details!
We will continue to monitor the situation and be assured, as just soon as we see it safe for us to reopen for tours and other events – we will!
