Crich Tramway Village Re-Opens

Published on Thursday 2 July 2020

Crich Tramway Village, home to the National Tramway Museum, will re-open to the public from Saturday 11th July 2020, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and weekends initially.

The venue has been closed since 20th March due to the Covid 19 pandemic, but with the latest government advice and loosening of some restrictions, intends to open with guidelines and social distancing in place.

Social distancing, hand sanitizing, PPE for staff, screens at information points and tills, take-away catering service, and one-way directional guidance with no interactives in exhibitions, are some of the measures which the management team have implemented.

The trams, which are crewed by a team of volunteers, will be limited, and face coverings should be worn as per the national guidance for public transport.

Members of the public will need to book a timed ticket for tram rides on arrival, and there will only be one stop for getting on and alighting the trams, to help ensure the safety of passengers, volunteers and staff.

General Manager, Dr Mike Galer said:

“The measures we have in place follow the guidance of the government, local authority and Public Health England.  VisitEngland has approved our measures via their ‘Good To Go’ standard. We hope our visitors understand that there will be restrictions on our normal offering, and we appreciate their patience in these difficult times.

“Many of our regular visitors are keen to return, and we look forward to welcoming them and new visitors from 11th July.  We have produced a ‘Covid 19 Crich Tramway Village guidance’ sheet, which describes what visitors can expect and this can be downloaded from our website: www.tramway.co.uk”.

In line with other venues, the indoor soft play area will remain closed and the numbers in indoor areas such as the shops and on the trams will be limited. Card and Contactless payments are preferred and full-priced tickets can be purchased online.

For those who prefer not to take tram rides at the moment, special day rates without tram rides have been introduced, and these are payable on arrival.
