Derbyshire Wildlife Trust events cancelled but publish activities online
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust have cancelled all events on their reserves at least until the end of May in response to the Coronavirus pandemic and government guidelines.
Events taking place from June will be reviewed, in light of new guidance as it emerges and updates will be published on the website and via social media.
The Trust has created a Get Wild at Home webpage to help isolated people and families at home connect with nature. It is packed with tips and activities which people of all ages can do to boost their mood and keep healthy whilst spending time indoors or around the garden. These include planting for butterflies, building nest boxes as well as spotter sheets and craft ideas.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s Chief Executive Jo Smith said; “We’ve got some fabulous nature activities ready for people everywhere to enjoy as well as a fun ways of helping children learn about the wildlife in their back garden or neighbourhood.”
Jo has also said that the Trust’s reserves are open, saying; “Our nature reserves are currently open and remain peaceful places to unwind with wildlife, get fresh air, headspace and exercise. Our reserves tend to be quiet places, away from any crowds but we ask you please to visit responsibly, follow the Government’s recommendations and stay at home if you have a fever or cough or have been told to do so.”
A list of reserves and their latest information can be found here and their availability as places for people living nearby to visit, will continue to be reviewed.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust will continue to support people’s connection to the natural environment during the coming months and encourage everyone to spend time noticing nature in the garden or neighbourhood responsibly, to help relieve stress and improve mental wellbeing.
