Derelict Ripley shop brought back to life by council
A once-derelict shop, in the heart of Ripley town centre, has been brought back to life by Amber Valley Borough Council.
Pictured: Councillor Chris Emmas-Williams, Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council, is pictured receiving the keys to the newly refurbished shop unit at 2 Church Street, Ripley, from Gary Fisher of P J Lilley Ltd, who undertook the works. Also pictured is Councillor Ben Bellamy.
The council committed funding of £150,000 to enable its Market House premises, which is located at one of Ripley town centre’s busiest gateways, to be completely refurbished to a very high standard.
Leader of Amber Valley Borough Council, Councillor Chris Emmas-Williams commented: "This completed shop unit represents a significant financial investment by the council and presents a classic win-win situation. The shop unit will support the continued growth of Ripley Town Centre and provide local employment opportunities, whilst the rent that the council receives will contribute to our efforts to address the council’s funding shortfall."
Deputy Leader of the Council and cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Ben Bellamy, added: "This is one of a number of regeneration projects that the council has in the pipeline to support the local economy. Now that this shop unit has been completed, we are developing plans to create another new shop unit next door, so watch this space!"
The council will shortly be advertising the completed shop for rent and anyone who is interested can contact the council direct at enquiry@ambervalley.gov.uk.
