A Local resident is sought to join police oversight committee

Published on Monday 13 January 2020

Derbyshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa and Chief Constable Peter Goodman have launched a recruitment campaign to appoint a new member to the Joint Audit Risk Assurance Committee, the body responsible for reviewing and scrutinising policing efficiency.

They are seeking a local resident to join the Joint Audit, Risk and Assurance Committee (JARAC) as a panel member, advising and monitoring the delivery of value-for-money policing in Derbyshire.   The JARAC looks at the work of both the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and Derbyshire Constabulary.

The Committee provides independent scrutiny of risk management arrangements, financial performance and governance, audit arrangements and ensures risk controls are in place to deliver continuing improvements.

The new member will help to reassure the public that a robust framework of risk management is in place.

Urging people to apply, Commissioner Hardyal Dhindsa said: "This Committee characterises our open and transparent approach.  I expect the new member to examine, question and challenge the processes and arrangements in place to ensure we maximise policing performance and continue to deliver economy from public funds.

"If they identify new areas for improvement I will be delighted.  We are all focused on a pattern of continuous improvement and I want people to have confidence that their local police force is the best it can possibly be.

"Policing is an ever-changing and increasingly challenging environment and the need for independent oversight has never been more important."

Members will meet a minimum of four times a year at Police HQ in Ripley.  Members receive an annual allowance plus travel expenses and appropriate training will be provided.

Applicants must live or work within the Derbyshire Police geographical area be over the age of 18 and not a member of a political party (or independent equivalent).

For more information please visit the Commissioner's Website and download an application pack
